Video comparison of the PBT / OCD
By KenBJammen on Jul 31, 2010 | In Welcome
I made a quick oscilloscope test of the PBT OD and the Fulltone OCD.
This video shows an oscilloscope testing of the Pedals By Tone Overdrive pedal and the FullTone OCD. The first three notes are the clean signal, the second three notes are notes produced by the Pedals by Tone (PBT) overdrive. The last three tones are by the Fulltone OCD.
The PBT OD was set at 50% gain with the tone all the way to the treble setting. The OCD was set at 50% gain with tone at 80%. The PBT OD give a substantial amount of sustain and clean overdrive. There is a substantial amount of harmonics created by the PBT OD. There wave created by all pedals is very smooth and rounded. The OCD has less sustain but is a slightly quieter pedal. The quietness is most likely a result of the lower amount of overdrive. The PBT OD can create insane amounts of clean overdrive.

BAB contest X
By KenBJammen on Jul 18, 2010 | In Music
Good day to everyone. This is the official announcement of Burlap and Blues contest X. This is our tenth on line contest (hence the name) and we again will be offering a prize.
The topic for this contest is play the blues to a shred track (tracks from Guitarmageddon 2005):
Here is an explanation of the topic. During KOTB every year we have several shredders playing to the blues tracks. During a discussion at BAB we decided if Guitar Center holds Guitarmagedon we will all enter and play blues to the shred tracks... LOL...
The ides of July
By KenBJammen on Jul 15, 2010 | In In real life
Well, the Ides of July is here. We are getting ready to ramp up for contest X. This will be an extreme contest for our BAB members. Not sure what the prizes will be at this time, but there will be one. It will be a fun challenge for sure. Open to all guitar players.
Keep it cool!
The not blues manifesto revised
By KenBJammen on Jul 13, 2010 | In In real life
The first not blues manifesto still gives me a chuckle when I think of it. People who think that dings in their SUV gives you the blues!
Dings in your SUV. Can't be blues, that's just the way it is. Just ask Yoso. Inside the engine, fix it, outside, dents bring character!
Boob jobs gone wrong. Can't be blues, that's just the way it is. Unless your a guy singing about his babe, but that's pushing it. Unless it's your babe and they were fake push up bra's from your mom's closet, then it's the blues.
Winning the lottery. Can't be blues, that's just the way it is, unless you lost your ticket, then it is probably a psychological delusion. Going nuts because your wife left you for your cousin, that's the blues.
Caviar. Can't be blues, that's just the way it is. Don't even question me on this. Fake caviar served on plastic toast points that give you raging diarhhea, them's the blues!
Holding up the Kwiky Mart Can't be blues, that's just the way it is. Unless, it is you getting caught, or your lover got caught, or you were the one being held up. There are a lot of exclusions on this one, we might have to remove this one, but that is up for a vote later this year. Yes, getting held up at the kwiky mart is the blues, getting held up anywhere is the blues.
The not blues manifesto!
Bad Karma for being mean to new musicians!
By KenBJammen on Jul 12, 2010 | In In real life
A few months ago I wrote a blog entry about a horrible place that was getting young bands to "open" for other bands by paying large sums of money (or what I would consider large amounts of money). The guy who runs this place has been known to try and leverage people and print advertisement follow up with "Hey we printed your ads, now you have to pay to play!"
Most recently I received more spam from this looser and just asked him to take us off his mailing list because I didn't agree with his tactics.
Now, this Southeastern Wisconsin Venue considers that request unreasonable and even states that forwarding email can be punishable by law. If you want more information about this venue, you won't have to look far on the internet.
Here are some tips for new bands:
1. If someone says you are great, but have to fork over some money for advertisement at their "Big Venue" you might reconsider.
2. If you have to pay someone at your venue to have security for your protection you might reconsider.
3. Big touring bands don't usually do searches for unheard of artists.
Everyone has to do their time these days.
Taking it slow this summer.
By KenBJammen on Jul 8, 2010 | In Reviews
This summer I have been taking it in a little slow with the reviews. I have a few things I am waiting to review that are getting closer to being complete! If you have any gear questions, go ahead and ask on our gear forum. Our gear guru's are here waiting to assist you!
Wow!
By KenBJammen on Jul 6, 2010 | In In real life
Wow, we made it past the 4th of July without blowing anything up. It has been a busy week around here. JKennemur was announced as the winner of the guitar (AXL SRO) this week, and he will be getting his guitar sometime in the next week or so.
Contest #10 is in the works and there is a neat idea based on the possibility of Guitar Center bringing back Guitarmageddon. This contest will be a trip.
So, sit back and enjoy the ride and keep it cool!
